In conversation with one of our interns today, I came to realize how I’m still completely sidetracked any pretty much any track from any of these albums comes on at random in my iTunes. Some of you are going to say “Yeah, no kidding these bands (albums) are great,” but for those of you with the perplexed “who is that” look on your face who have not, by some stretch of the imagination, familiarized yourself with these artists/albums yet:

1. you may not be breathing

2. you may not have ears, in which case I’m sorry to *hear* it… and even sorrier that the only way I can express my sorrow for your lack of being able to hear is by drawing attention to the fact that I can.

3. I don’t know, maybe you’re just not cool.

On that, The Last Shadow Puppets, MGMT, and Yeasayer continue to dominate my playlists. If my iTunes “Most Played Tracks” smart playlist wasn’t rendered completely unreliable by my persistence to create Genius playlists from songs that I really don’t listen to often (just to see what comes up…), then these artists would surely be at the top of the list.

(They have got some sick album covers for the full length and singles alike. Worth showing.)

What else deserves an honorable mention here? Well, I also realized today that, yeah it’s “so last year” and arguably “so 2 years ago”, but Hot Chip destroys me still to this day. Do I get aroused when Ready for the Floor comes on? Maybe. Shake a Fist? Well… yes. Yes I do.

While we’re on the topic of stuff that I’m surprised still completely captures my attention when it comes on: DO NOT HESITATE (even for one second) to listen to the Studio remix of The Little Ones “Morning Tide”. In fact, if you don’t immediately hit repeat and listen to it again, I’ll be terribly surprised and encourage you to attempt to explain to me why you didn’t.

And what would a Rediscovery post be without an omage to Cut Copy’s “In Ghost Colours”. If you haven’t sat in your room by yourself, put this record on and, three tracks in, realized that you’ve been having a dance party by yourself, then you may or may not have a soul. I know Nate Daddy has stumbled upon the fact that he, in fact, does have one - and for this very reason.

So, there. There’s a lot of names out there for you. Looking back, it’s kind of an interesting observation that I just felt like naming THESE bands as having held my attention for longer than I would have thought. Before this second, I probably wouldn’t have even considered myself a fan (enough) of this (these) genre(s), but hell. Recognizing you have a problem is the first step to recovery. Wait. I don’t have a problem. These bands actually are sickening. Enjoy, peeples.

– — Side comment: I’ll be honest with you. Yeah, I like The Black Keys as much as the next guy. If you know me then you know that I’d even argue that The Black Keys aren’t as good as a go-nowhere, never-play-a-show, perfect band called Hawkeye, but aside from that - I just don’t really dig their newest album. Okay, rephrase - I dig it, but I don’t listen to it. Not ever. And when tracks from it find their way into my oft-randomized playlists (thanks “Genius”), I excercise my Next Track shortcut key skills quickly. Say what you will. Would I go see them? Obviously. Would I say they are sick? Absolutely. Will I listen to them in the car? On a long road trip while I’m sleeping… sure.

– — Auxillary comment: If you like Animal Collective, like honestly like them, fine. If you’re going to say to me, “Yeah, Animal Collective does some cool shit,” then fine. But don’t tell me that you actually buy their albums and listen to them on any kind of regular basis - because I’m going to call you a tasteless moron. My apologies ahead of time, but - yeah - prove me wrong.

– — Last thing: Sorry, The Teenagers - but you have got to do more than what you’re doing if you want me to care anymore. NEXT!
